A 14-year old boy rushed to rescue a cat hanging off the over-bridge on a highway. The tabby was so grateful to be saved that he clung to his rescuer and didn't want to let go.

Meet Lucky the cat and Gavin his rescuer.

When Erin Brown was driving on a highway Sunday, February 12, taking her son, Gavin, to a birthday party, she gasped and couldn't believe what she saw.

A cat was tossed out a window from a moving vehicle in front of them. As she came to a stop, her son, Gavin, bolted out of the car and signaled the incoming traffic to stop, so he could get to the cat and rescue him.

"In shock watching the cat slam the pavement and scurry all over the highway he ran to the overpass right by me and jumped on top of the overpass about to jump down," Brown shares with Love Meow.

Gavin flew out of the car, ran to the bridge and grabbed the traumatized cat.

"Not sure which I'm in more shock of, the cat being thrown out a window of a moving vehicle on 196 or my son flying out of my car onto the highway and diving into an overpass to rescue a cat."

The cat was breathing heavily from the trauma. His nails were torn off from trying to grip the pavement too hard.

"He cuddled right into Gavin's arms and Gavin held him tightly and just kept petting him to show him that we wouldn't hurt him and gain the cat's trust."

Lucky was taken to BluePearl Animal Hospital, and the staff started working on him and gave him meds to relieve the pain. "Gavin was not letting go of his new baby. The bond was instant and he was a hot emotional mess over this cat."

Later, a good Samaritan learned about their story through Facebook and offered to pay for a large portion of the medical expenses. Gavin was overwhelmed by the kind gesture, and tears started flowing. "He then said, 'I'll also give the $63 I have to pay for my new cat to go with that to get us closer to the total.' My heart just swelled with gratitude," Brown said.

Lucky is doing very well and recovering with flying colors at his new home.

The two buddies became very attached. "Lucky is well aware that Gavin saved him and their bond is one I just can't describe," Brown said. "Lucky is so far the sweetest cat I have ever met! He is so mellow and playful and just plain lovable!"

The heroic boy has a big heart for animals and always wanted to be a veterinarian when he grew up. Now he is determined to make it a reality.
