A woman found a tiny kitten lying on a concrete slab all alone. After waiting for the cat mother but to no avail, she took matters into her own hands to get the kitten help.
Meet Mini Kiwi!
Kiwi was a little over one week old when she was found crying by herself on the cold concrete. Before she was taken to Chatons Orphelins Montréal, her rescuer hoped that the mother cat would return but she was nowhere to be found.
"She seemed to have been abandoned, maybe the mother felt that the kitten had developmental issues and wouldn't survive," Celine Crom of Chatons Orphelins Montréal shared with Love Meow.
"The mother cat wasn't looking to protect her, so the lady who found her, made the one-hour journey to bring her to us in Montreal so the kitten could get the care she desperately needed."
Kiwi was very small, weighing just 160 grams. Aside from an eye infection, the kitten had other illnesses that needed immediate treatments.
"Kiwi was unable to feed herself, but she was alert."
Over the next few days, the kitten didn't grow much at all but she was alive and kept fighting to live.
"Her development was slow and only half the size of a normal kitten her age. Kiwi ate very little and had to be fed through a syringe. She looked like a little dwarf kitten and her condition was stable but still very worrying."
They knew from the start that kittens this young without a mother had a much higher mortality rate, but foster mom Erica was determined to nurse her back to health.
With regular supplements, round-the-clock feeding and care, and abundant love, at six weeks old, the kitten started to come around.
She gains weight slowly but surely.
The little girl will forever remain tiny, but she's now thriving.
Her health is looking so much better albeit petite in stature.
She will require more treatment for the next five weeks, but her foster mom and everyone at Chatons Orphelins Montréal are hopeful that this tiny miracle kitty will learn to eat more and become bigger and stronger.
Kiwi put up a grumpy face at the vet's.
Today Kiwi is three months old, weighing in at 620 grams! She's still mini-sized but she has so much to give.
Her fur is getting fluffier and her personality has started to shine. What she lacks in size, she makes up for it with purrs.
