A man got an ultimatum from his girlfriend that they could get back together if he would "get rid of" his cat.

After hearing that, he made his choice.

"Well, I guess this is goodbye, then," imgur user voiceafx said.

He and his former girlfriend split up because of religious differences, but they still had feelings for each other, so the girl reached out to him one day...

"She called me and said that if we got back together, I'd have to get rid of my cat."

He knew right away that that was not an option.

"This is my cat, Hobbes. I'm 33 years-old, and Hobbes is the closest thing I have to a kid," he said.

The fluffy kitty is his best friend, confidant and the closest companion. He is like family to him. Getting rid of a family member is not a choice that he'd make.

Hobbes brings a lot of joy and silly antics into his human's life.

He makes his human very proud.

"I love my kitty cat, and I'm never 'getting rid' of him," he said.

"I now have no desire to get back with my ex. End of story."
