A woman hugged a kitten that no one wanted, and the tiny calico latched onto her and wouldn't let go...
Meet Lola!
It was the day after Mother's Day, Carla Reilly Moore, cofounder of Happy Tails Farm Sanctuary (in Kingston, Ontario), was on an animal rescue mission for two little chickens, but things didn't happen exactly as planned.
"I had left to go pick up two three week old chickens who were in desperate need of placement. Because I didn't have the proper feed for them, I had to make a stop at our local feed store. In this particular feed store they have a special cage that they use to house the chicks and ducklings that they often have for sale. Today was different," Carla told Love Meow.
As soon as she entered the store, she saw a tiny calico kitten crying in the cage, running to the front, trying to get her attention.
Carla didn't plan to have more kitties as she and her husband had already rescued and adopted six felines.
"(The kitten) looked so pathetic I couldn't resist at least picking her up to give her some comfort. I did pick her up, and she immediately latched onto me with all four feet," Carla told Love Meow.
"When I tried to put her back into the cage, I couldn't get her to let go. I had someone help me and they couldn't do it either. She had picked me. She made her way up onto my neck and into my hair."
The sweet kitty was determined to go home with Carla and wouldn't take no for an answer.
"Sometimes these things just happen. Knowing that I shouldn't bring home yet another animal without speaking to the other half of Happy Tails Farm sanctuary, my husband, I sent him a few videos of the situation."
He didn't respond right away but Carla couldn't leave the kitten there, and the calico was clinging to her for dear life.
"Most people don't spay or neuter their barn cats, and so many don't want to have any females, because they don't want to have to deal with kittens. I honestly don't know what happens to most females, but it's not good," Carla told Love Meow.
Carla walked out of the store with the kitten attached to her. She named her Lola aka Treasure. Driving home with the little clingy kitty was not an easy task.
"She wanted to be as close to me as possible and clawed her way back up my shirt and settled nicely into the back of my neck," Carla told Love Meow.
That afternoon Carla couldn't do anything without having little Lola in her arms or on her shoulder. "I could not put her down. I went about my chores in the barn with a kitten attached to me. I ended up carrying her in a front carrying a baby carrier, so that she could be close to me and feel my movements, and not be so afraid."
The little calico was extremely frightened and meowed constantly.
"Because she was so close to my ear, I could hear strange breathing sound so I made an appointment with the veterinarian. As it turned out, the sweet baby has a lung infection. We got her on antibiotics and she's expected to make a full recovery."
After two days of constant love and TLC, sweet Lola calmed down and came out of her shell.
"She settled in now and is as happy as can be! She is bright, active, actually extremely active, curious, and just loves to play! She tries to engage the other six cats, and even plays with our rescue bunnies," Carla told Love Meow.
But what she loves the most is to cuddle with her rescuer, now forever human mom when she naps.
The sweet calico is no longer "unwanted". She knows now that she's loved and treasured!
Right after Carla brought Lola back to the Happy Tails Farm Sanctuary...
