A cat with only three legs meets a kind woman for coffee at a cat café. He insisted on making that meeting turn into his forever home.

Meow Parlour, the first cat café in New York City, took in Meowth from a previous rescue. They had already flagged an old injury to his left hind leg but noted it wasn't causing any issues.
Meowth became one of Meow Parlour's longest-ever residents, and over his stretch in the café's care, the tabby with the leg that stuck straight out became something of a local legend. People came for the treats and the cats, and left charmed by the one who sat like he was mid-photo-shoot.
It never bent quite right, and it became his signature. "It always stuck straight out when he sat, like he was striking a dramatic pose, and it never failed to make visitors smile," Katy Riddle, Meow Parlour's operations director, told LoveMeow. The team came to know it fondly as his "leggy."

For a long time, the leggy was just part of his charm. But over time, it grew clear something was wrong, and new X-rays in the fall of 2025 showed the old injury had never healed and the damage ran deeper than anyone had realized. To let him live free of pain, his care team decided the kindest path was to remove the leg.
Meowth spent six months recovering in one of the café's foster homes. By the time he came back to the cat floor, he returned to a full house with new friends to play with.

It was kitten season, which meant a fresh crop of younger cats for this super-energetic tripod to wrestle and chase. Three legs did nothing to slow him down.
The fosters who cared for him kept noticing how much he behaved like another species entirely. "Active and friendly, almost like a dog," one of them said.

He is the sort of cat who wants to be part of whatever you are doing. "He loves to follow you, meow a bit, eat with you, play in the morning, and evening, sit next to you," another foster shared.
And he has plenty to say. "Meowth has so much personality! He definitely communicates through meowing, and will let you know what he wants, or how he is feeling," a foster added.

Between the meowing, the wrestling, and a talent for turning any tent or tunnel into his personal fort, there was never a dull moment with Meowth in the room.
For all his charm, a home was slow to come. Meowth waited more than a year, one of the café's longest holdouts, watching younger cats get adopted in a fraction of the time while he stayed on.

Then, this summer, his turn came. Meowth met his person at the café, and this August the silly boy with the famous leg went to a loving home for good.
It was a bittersweet goodbye for the staff and volunteers who had watched over him for so long, but the good kind, the kind they had been working toward for sixteen months.

His new person is getting a cat who fills a room the moment he walks in. Meowth shares his every opinion, follows his people from spot to spot, and greets each morning like it is the best idea anyone has ever had.
Between the cuddles and the commentary, life with him is never quiet, and that, everyone agrees, is the whole point.

Not long ago, Meowth was the café's longest-staying resident, striking his dramatic pose for every visitor who came through the door. Today he is somebody's cat, three legs and all, exactly where he was always meant to land.

Meowth's adoption was sponsored by Cat Video Fest and Oscilloscope Labs, whose partnership with Meow Parlour has helped several of the café's hardest-to-place cats find homes. Kids ages 3 to 99 cannot wait for the world's number one cat video festival, already in theaters across the United States and around the world from Oscilloscope Labs. It benefits local cats in need, and since 2019, the festival has raised more than $400,000 for shelters and rescues. Learn more at catvideofest.com.
