A gray cat who moved from home to home for years is reunited with his original rescue thanks to a kind woman and his microchip. Now he holds hands with whoever gives him sweet pets.

Truly Scrumptious, or Truly for short, is a sweet four-year-old gray cat whose story began happily enough. He was adopted as a kitten in 2022 from Whiskers-A-GoGo, an all-volunteer cat rescue in Brooklyn, and sent off with every hope for a wonderful life.
The years that followed took some hard turns. About a year after the adoption, the woman who took him home split with her boyfriend, and he kept the cat, even though she had signed the adoption papers. A few years later, he moved to an apartment that did not allow pets and left Truly with his elderly mother.
Before long, that woman's landlord stopped by to say that pets were not permitted there. With nowhere left to turn, she tucked Truly into a granny cart, piled her shopping bags on top of him, and set out to leave him on the street.

On her way, she thankfully passed Good Home Cat Adoptions, a small rescue storefront on Franklin Avenue in Crown Heights, run by a rescuer named Bronwen. Bronwen took the cat in, and rather than sending him on to the city shelter, she did one small but important thing: she scanned him for a microchip.
That single decision changed everything. When Bronwen called the microchip company, the scan came back registered to a rescue, and not just any rescue, but Whiskers-A-GoGo, the very group that had sent Truly home as a kitten a few years earlier. Instead of heading to the city shelter, he was going back to the people who had cared about him all along.

Bronwen kept Truly safe until Whiskers-A-GoGo could come and pick him up. The rescue had never stopped counting him as one of their own, and they had him checked over from nose to tail before settling him into a foster home.
The cat who came back to them was not the confident boy they remembered. For the first few days he was very scared, quiet, and withdrawn, worn thin by being passed along so many times.

The change took about three weeks. Little by little the fear loosened its grip, the old Truly began to resurface, and the withdrawn cat who had arrived turned back into a happy one.
And what a cat he is. "Truly is gorgeous, cuddly, affectionate, playful, and independent," Whiskers-A-GoGo shared with LoveMeow, describing a boy who offers companionship and easygoing charm in equal measure.

He has some especially endearing habits, too. He plays fetch with his mouse toys, trotting each one back and dropping it at his person's feet for another throw, clever and delighted every time. He loves sleeping in bed alongside his people just as much.
The sweetest habit of all comes when he settles in for a cuddle. "He will even reach out to put his paws on your hands and hold them while you cuddle," the rescue shared.

For a cat who spent so long without a place to call his own, Truly has landed softly in foster care, healthy, affectionate, and content. Whiskers-A-GoGo put its hope for him plainly. "After being passed around for years, this boy deserves a person who means forever when they say it," the rescue shared.
Without that microchip, Truly might have vanished for good, left on a sidewalk or swallowed up by the city shelter system with no way to trace where he came from. It comes down to the tiny chip Whiskers-A-GoGo had registered when he was a kitten, and to Bronwen, who took him in and thought to reach for a scanner.

Truly Scrumptious spent years being handed from one place to the next, each home slipping away before it could become permanent. Now he is back with the rescue that never stopped being his, and the granny cart and the Brooklyn sidewalk are the last hard chapter of his story.
