A black kitten was found covered in paint at a construction site, badly hurt and barely holding on, and the thing that seemed to keep the little black kitten going was his orange sister, found with him.

Vinny, short for Vincent and named for the paint that nearly killed him, is a healthy, bright-eyed kitten today. A year ago, almost no one thought he would live to see it.
The call came from a construction site, where crews demolishing a building found a tiny kitten smothered in paint. Struck by a paint can, he had a broken leg and a head injury, and he was fading fast.

He was not alone. A small orange sister, Vivienne, was curled right beside him, untouched, already doing the thing she would keep doing for weeks to come: keeping her brother warm.

Lindsay, a medical foster with Leo’s Friends Rescue, did not hesitate. She drove out to collect the pair and get them to safety, even in the middle of an already hard day.
Faced with a decision about where Vinny had the best chance, she followed her gut and drove the long way to her trusted vet. “I couldn’t give up control over his fate,” Lindsay shared with LoveMeow.

The drive was harrowing. Vinny kept crashing, and Lindsay dripped apple juice into his mouth the whole way, praying he would hold on. One drop at a time, mile after mile, it was the only thing she could do to keep him with her.
At the clinic, he was cleaned, then shaved, and given fluids. With a broken leg and how little he was responding, the team feared a serious head injury, and no one could say whether he would pull through.

Lindsay decided to give him time, and took both kittens home to foster. Just a few hours after they arrived, Vinny did something that brought her to tears. He started meowing again.
Through those first fragile days, Vivienne barely moved from his side. She snuggled close and kept him warm, her small body and steady heartbeat comforting him at his worst.

The rescue is convinced Vivienne is part of why her brother lived. “We truly believe having Vivi by his side played a huge part in his recovery,” Lindsay shared, crediting the warm snuggles and comforting heartbeat that kept him going.
Lindsay trusted what she saw in him, too. “If there’s a glimmer behind those eyes, listen to them,” she shared, and Vinny, it turned out, had plenty of glimmer left.

He surprised everyone. A little better one day, stronger the next, and before long he was walking again, cast and all, keeping pace with his sister step for step.
Vivienne kept pace with opinions of her own, one paw often raised as though she had something to add to the conversation. Whatever Vinny was doing, she was right in the middle of it.

The feared head injury never showed itself. The cast came off, his eyesight was perfectly fine, and the kitten who had so nearly slipped away was declared completely healthy. “An absolute miracle,” Lindsay shared. “We genuinely didn’t know if he would pull through, but he did.”
Today Vinny is a sleek, bright-eyed charmer with no sign of the state he arrived in. The paint, the cast, the terrifying drive are all behind him.

Vivienne came through it all untouched and grew into the gentlest, most affectionate girl imaginable. “She loves to lay in your lap and get cuddles and be held like a baby,” Lindsay shared, and she melts into the arms of anyone who will hold her.
Her devotion to her brother never faded. The two have never spent a day apart, and if they are separated even briefly, they cry out for each other until they are back together.

These days the pair nap with their arms wrapped around each other, Vivienne’s face nestled into her brother’s soft fur. Wherever one of them goes, the other follows.
Vinny was found covered in paint and barely breathing, with Vivienne pressed close beside him. Today, the two of them are whole, wonderful, and every bit the cats Lindsay bet on.

Vinny and Vivienne are looking for a home together, because after everything, these two are not meant to be apart.
