A tiny kitten was left outside and left to face a world far too big for someone so small, and he spent his first frightening days pawing at a glass door. Once it was opened, he finally got to be the baby kitten he deserved to be.

Jitsu’s beginning was a frightening one. This baby kitten was left outside, abandoned with no one to protect him and no understanding of the many dangers around him.

Imagine being so small in a world so big, with no idea where to turn for safety. At an age when he should have been chasing toys and napping in a warm lap, Jitsu was instead trying to work out how to survive.

The outside world makes no promises to a kitten like him.

The footage of the day he was found is hard to forget. A tiny gray kitten sits alone at a glass door, reaching one small white paw up against it, as if he already understood that safety was on the other side and he needed someone to open it.

“This baby should be chasing toys, not searching for safety,” Gissell of Paws of Hope NYC shared with LoveMeow. He was far too little to be out there on his own, and he knew it.

Thankfully, someone stepped forward for Jitsu. One caring foster saw him and knew she couldn't leave him to fend for himself.

“Sometimes the only thing separating a rescue story from a tragedy is whether someone stepped forward in time,” Gissell shared with LoveMeow. She made a promise to give Jitsu the one thing the streets never could: a real chance, and she committed to it with her whole heart.

With that one decision, everything changed. Jitsu went from a tiny kitten with an uncertain future to a little one wrapped in safety and care, free at last to be a kitten.

In the comfort of his foster home, he could rest easy, protected and doted on for the first time in his life. The frightening days outside began to fade.

Safe indoors, Jitsu finally got to do the things a kitten his age is meant to do. There are toys to bat across the floor now, soft blankets to flop on, and people who come running when he calls.

“Jitsu deserved that opportunity to experience a better life, and I committed to giving it to him,” Gissell shared. He has taken that chance and run with it, growing brighter and bolder by the day.

These days Jitsu is a kitten with a personality as big as the world that once frightened him. His foster has discovered he is endlessly patient about being dressed up, and she takes full advantage, so he turns up in a bandana one day and a tiny cowboy hat the next.

He wears all of it like he was born for the camera, tolerating each new costume with the calm of a cat who knows he looks good. For a baby who started with nothing, he has grown into a little character who seems delighted by everything around him.

Under his foster’s devoted care, Jitsu has been given everything he needs to thrive. He is now neutered, fully vetted, and completely ready for the next chapter of his life.

The uncertain days of being alone outside are firmly behind him, replaced by the warmth and security every kitten deserves. He hunts his feather toy now with the focus of a cat twice his size, pouncing and tumbling until it finally surrenders.

Where the streets offered him nothing but danger, his foster offered him a fighting chance, and he has made the very most of it.

Now he is spending his very first holiday season surrounded by pumpkins and soft blankets, a kitten with nothing to do but lounge among the decorations and wait for his next meal.

From a scared baby left outside to a healthy, confident kitten, Jitsu has come a remarkable distance in a short time, and it is all thanks to one foster who refused to look the other way.

Jitsu spent his first days pawing at a glass door, asking to be let in. Today he is indoors, warm, safe, and done waiting on the wrong side of anything.
