A cat came to a family's garden with two kittens, but she had a few more on the way that needed help.

Late last month, a stray cat appeared in a family's garden, searching for food and shelter. She had brought along two teenage kittens, and her round belly revealed that more were on the way.

The mother cat, later named Hen, was friendly from the start. She crept closer to the house while her kittens, Chicken and Turkey, lingered timidly behind her. "She had been hanging around her finder for help," The Stray Cat Club told Love Meow.

When the residents realized Hen was heavily pregnant, they contacted their local rescue.

Volunteers from The Stray Cat Club responded quickly. With Hen's labor approaching, they set a humane trap in the area, hoping to secure her before the kittens arrived, while a foster family prepared a cozy spot to welcome them.

Hen was due to give birth at any moment, yet still cared for her two older boys, who followed her everywhere.

At first, Chicken and Turkey were terrified. They huddled together inside their carrier, too afraid to come out. "They're a little hissy, but it's all noise and nerves. Both are just scared and can be gently handled."

While Hen and her kittens settled indoors, rescuers continued their search for the elusive father cat still roaming outside.

Hen quickly adjusted to her new surroundings. With an endless supply of food and a warm nest, she blossomed, playing with toys and rediscovering her inner kitten.

"She's already shown herself to be a devoted mother. Now, she has everything she needs for a peaceful birth: a warm bed, a full belly, and the chance to raise her last litter in safety."

Even though Chicken and Turkey were nearly four months old, Hen continued to dote on them. They curled up beside her, keeping her company as she awaited the arrival of her new babies.

"The boys have come such a long way since arriving with us."

"They have blossomed into funny, gentle little souls with such lovely personalities. They are still a bit wary of loud noises and quick movements, which isn't surprising, given how their story started."

"With time and patience, they've shown just how much love they have to give."

Over time, the fear in their eyes faded, and their adorable personalities started to shine.

Now, Chicken and Turkey enjoy lounging with their foster family, purring in contentment. No longer hiding behind their mom or worrying about their next meal, they've grown into joyful, affectionate young cats.

Last week, Hen went into labor. Instead of braving the streets, she delivered her kittens in warmth and safety. "That brings the number of cats in our care to 120, the highest we've ever had." (As of today, the number has gone up to about 130 with new intakes.)

Hen wasted no time stepping into her motherly role, tending lovingly to her newborns.

At nearly one week old now, some of the kittens are already getting their first peek at the world.

Thanks to a kind neighbor and the tireless efforts of volunteers, Hen and her family have been given a second chance. No more wandering, no more hunger, their lives will be filled with love, safety, and the comfort of home.
