A shelter cat was so happy when she and her kittens were given a comfortable home to stay and people to cuddle.

She even got a feline friend to help her when she needs a break.

Peregrine, a beautiful tuxedo cat, was brought to a shelter in West Virginia when she was very pregnant. She was later transferred to Lost Dog and Cat Rescue Foundation (LDCRF in Arlington, Virginia), and less than 48 hours later, she started going into labor.

Jen, a foster mom for the rescue, immediately offered to bring her home. "I couldn't imagine leaving her at the kennel while she was in such a vulnerable state," Jen told Love Meow.

"By the time I arrived, she had delivered five kittens. I scooped up the little family and brought them home."

Despite their very best efforts, two of the kittens did not survive, but the other three were nursing and thriving.

Mama Peregrine was purring and kneading on her soft new blankets while feeding her hungry little babies.

"While mom tries to be a good mother, she is also very much a kitten herself," Jen said. "She just wanted to be a lap cat who gets to snuggle and nuzzle her humans."

Peregrine loves to be showered with affection and comes to cuddle with her foster parents whenever she can.

When Jen is in the room, she follows her around everywhere she goes. All she wants is to be with someone and cuddle.

"She is truly one of the sweetest and most easy-going cats I have ever met."

She lets her foster parents handle her kittens and even accepts kitten-sitting help from a resident cat named Pokey.

Pokey has a soft spot for all the foster kitties Jen brings home.

"Pokey is obsessed with kittens, and these kittens are no different, even though they already have a parent," Jen told Love Meow.

"He loves to smell them, watch them, and groom them. Mom will happily snuggle with foster mom and dad while Pokey checks out the kittens and gives them a few licks. What mom doesn't want a break from her kiddos every once in a while?"

Her three kittens, Merlin, Kestrel, and Kite, are the spitting image of Mama.

"They are now almost five weeks old and hitting all of their milestones," Jen added.

"The whole family should be ready for adoption in about four weeks. While kittens always get adopted quickly, it often takes longer to find homes for their mothers. I truly hope Peregrine finds a perfect forever home as soon as she's ready."

Sweet Peregrine is enjoying all the cuddles and love she gets while Pokey helps watch her kittens.
