They opened their home to foster a shelter kitten, but the little cat had plans of her own when she found her favorite person.

At just three weeks old, a dilute calico arrived at the county shelter in desperate need of a bottle feeder.

She had been found alone in a park before animal control brought her to safety. Erin, a foster volunteer with Sparkle Cat Rescue, immediately stepped in to help. "When I picked her up, I took one look at her and said, 'That is Marshmallow.' I just knew that should be her name," Erin told Love Meow.

"It was almost like she told me. She's responded to her name since the first day I brought her home."

Marshmallow took to the bottle effortlessly. With each passing day, she grew stronger, more active, and increasingly curious about the world around her. As soon as she found her footing, she set off on tiny adventures, eager to be part of whatever her humans were doing.

"She's sweet, sassy, people-oriented, and the kind of kitten who makes every day better just by existing."

Even after she graduated from the bottle, Marshmallow still insisted on being babied. In return, she showered her humans with affection and plenty of enthusiastic grooming sessions. "She's a certified esthetician, specializing in cat tongue facials."

When she wasn't perched on someone's shoulder, supervising daily tasks, she was curled up in loving arms, purring contentedly.

Marshmallow followed her people from room to room, settling down wherever they were. She also took her role as kitchen assistant very seriously, inspecting groceries, guarding the pantry, and making sure dinner was always on time.

"When she's not helping with dinner, she's busy playing patty-cake with the resident cat."

Though tiny, Marshmallow was completely fearless and fully convinced she ran the entire household. "She's never been scared of our other cats, and they all loved her immediately. Even my sister's grumpy cat (who doesn't tolerate kittens) accepted her right away."

As time went on, Marshmallow formed a special bond with one member of the family.

"She's developed a bond with my son (Liam) that has been so sweet to watch."

Each morning, Marshmallow waits outside his bedroom door until it's time to wake him. The moment she's let in, she announces herself with a cheerful meow before gently nuzzling his face awake. They then spend ten minutes snuggling as he slowly gets up for the day.

Marshmallow loves everyone in the family, but Liam is clearly her favorite. "She plays differently with him and just wants to be with him all the time."

So when the family learned she had a potential adopter, the news hit especially hard for Liam. "He was absolutely devastated," Erin said. "He's usually pretty relaxed about our foster kittens going to their new homes, but this time was different for all of us."

Erin explained the situation to the potential adopter, who was incredibly understanding. In the end, Marshmallow didn't have to go far to find her happy ending—she had already found it.

"When we told our son he could keep Marshmallow, his smile was like the sun. You could just see the happiness radiating from him. We're all so happy she's going to be part of our lives permanently."
