An outdoor kitten was only supposed to be trapped and released. Instead, she chose to begin purring and making biscuits in the cage and decided she wasn't going back outside.

Misty's story began in Jamaica, Queens, at the end of June, where she was trapped as part of a trap, neuter, and return project. Even in that trap, this gentle girl showed exactly who she was, purring away and happily making biscuits with her little paws, sweet as could be despite her uncertain situation.
Her rescue speaks to a hard reality that cat rescuers across New York City face every day. With shelters and foster homes stretched far beyond capacity, dedicated trappers are sometimes forced to make the painful choice to spay and release even the friendliest cats, because there is nowhere left for them to go. "We are so over capacity that at this point we have to make the difficult decision to TNR friendly cats and kittens," For Animals Inc., a volunteer-run cat rescue in Queens, shared with LoveMeow.
Misty had been on that very path, one of the hardest parts of the work these rescuers do. But this little one was about to get lucky, all because of one person's compassion.

Another volunteer caught sight of Misty in the trap, purring and kneading, and could not bear to let her go. Even though she already had far too many cats in her care, she opened her home to give Misty a chance at the life she deserved.
Instead of heading back out to the streets, Misty was headed into foster care with a brighter future ahead.

Safe at last, Misty blossomed into a wonderful little companion, and it is easy to see why everyone who meets her falls for her. She is affectionate to her core, purring the moment a person so much as glances her way, as if she cannot contain how glad she is to be seen.
She is spirited and playful, too. Misty loves her ball tower and her wand toys, and she adores playing with other cats.

Her greatest passion of all, though, is food. This little foodie loves her meals so much that the only time she ever makes a funny little growl is when she is eating. "The only time she growls is when she's eating, it's so funny," the rescue shared.
One of the sweetest parts of her foster life is her bond with her foster brother Pepita, another friendly cat rescued from Jamaica, Queens earlier this year. The two have become the best of friends, grooming each other and curling up to sleep together.

Now around five months old, Misty is spayed, fully vaccinated, and healthy, and she has tested negative for FIV and FeLV. She is wonderful with other cats and dogs, and by every account, completely ready for a home of her own.
Misty has now been waiting for a home longer than anyone expected. "We cannot believe Misty is still waiting for her forever home," the rescue shared.

She has turned out to be one of the most uncomplicated cats the rescue has fostered. A warm bed, a full bowl, a lap to purr on, and the company of another cat or two, and she is perfectly content.
Not long ago, Misty was purring in a trap, moments from being spayed and sent back out to the streets she came from. Today she is safe, healthy, and thoroughly herself, waiting in a foster home for the one person ready to see what everyone around her already has.
