Carmen, a 9 year old rescue cat, lost her ears to tumor, but was given a second chance at life thanks to those who saved her and never gave up on her.

Carmen before the surgery

"Nine-year-old Carmen was first spotted by one of our adopters, Angela, who saw her trying to cross a busy street in traffic, oblivious to the honking horns. Once she got her safely inside, she saw the fungus growing in her ears, which our vet said had to have been there untreated for years, making her deaf and causing her great discomfort," Cat Town wrote on Facebook.

In order to save Carmen's life, her ears had to be removed. "We made the difficult decision to go ahead with ear ablation surgery."

After the surgery, her journey to recovery began. She went home with Daria K, foster mom of Jarvia the cat with a lazy eye. They put her on medication and help her rehabilitate.

Carmen is learning to adapt to the changes, and she is really coming along. She purrs every time there are people around and loves to be loved. Even though she can't hear, she is not bothered by it and is so happy to have a safe place to live.

"It's been bit of a rough ride but so worth the effort! She's lovely," said Daria.

She was given a lot of care and love during her recovery. Daria, Carmen's foster mom, built stairs for her to walk up to her favorite chair.

They gave her a big cuddle buddy to snuggle with.

Carmen has touched everyone who has gotten to know her. Though she can't hear, she is very happy and loved.
