A small cat found abandoned in a cardboard box on a frigid New York day refuses to give up on finding her person.

Some cats arrive with a story already written in their eyes. Jaisa is one of those cats.
She was found last winter in the Bronx, inside a box, on a busy, traffic-filled block, in the kind of cold that makes your breath disappear in front of you. She wasn’t moving. She was frightened beyond words, and the world rushing past her seemed completely unaware that a small, gentle life was hanging in the balance. The right people noticed. And everything changed.
Rescue volunteers from Little Wanderers NYC scooped her up and brought her somewhere warm, somewhere safe, somewhere she could finally exhale.

She was fully vetted and placed into foster with a fresh start and her whole life ahead of her. It was quickly discovered that Jaisa was pregnant. However, after a week, Jaisa took a difficult turn, one that would have her fighting for months to get back to 100%. She stopped eating. Her weight dropped her small frame faster than anyone could catch it. She needed a feeding tube just to get enough nutrition to keep her body going.

Her fosters refused to give up on her. Through every vet visit, every medication schedule, every careful, watchful night, they showed up for her completely. Their dedication was the kind that doesn’t make headlines but absolutely saves lives. After being rushed into emergency care, severely dehydrated, running a fever, and battling a serious upper respiratory infection, Jaisa was in rough shape.

Slowly, steadily, Jaisa began to turn a corner. The feeding tube came out. She started eating on her own. The fear in her eyes softened into curiosity.

But here’s what you need to know about Jaisa: she never stopped being sweet. Even in her most fragile moments, she was affectionate, gentle, and somehow, still purring.

After weeks of round-the-clock care, Jaisa started eating on her own again. It’s hard to overstate what that milestone means for a cat who has fought this hard. Her fever broke. Her weight began to climb in the right direction. She was purring. She was making biscuits. She was Jaisa again.

Over the past six months, her foster family has given her something that no amount of medicine alone could provide: consistency, patience, and an unshakeable belief that she deserved to make it. Now, because of them, a cat who was found frozen in fear inside a cardboard box is now ready, truly ready, to find her forever home.

And what a home she will fill with joy.
Jaisa loves chasing her toy balls across the floor, pressing her nose to the window to watch the world go by, and curling up close to her favorite humans to make biscuits. She’s a bona fide snuggle bug who is good with other cats or happy as the sole star of the household.

Jaisa has already survived more than most cats ever face. She did it with grace, with gentleness, and with a little help from the people who never stopped believing in her.
