What the veterinarians found changed everything. Eliza was not pregnant at all. That swollen belly was a pyometra, a dangerous infection of the uterus, and her condition was critical. The medical team gently shared that without immediate help, she had "days to live."

Her team learned that during the first operation, a ureter leading from one of her kidneys had accidentally been closed off, causing damage that could not be undone. Eliza needed a second major surgery, this time losing a kidney and having more affected tissue removed.
Through both operations and the long, uncertain days between, this remarkable girl kept fighting, and the people caring for her never wavered, not through one surgery or two.

That devotion is the true heart of Eliza's story. From the rescuers who answered the first call, to the veterinary teams who fought to save her, to Fifi, the foster who took Eliza into her own home to recover, she has been surrounded by people determined to give her a future.
Today, at long last, Eliza is home and recovering, so happy to be safe and indoors. "Her warrior heart has carried her this far," Fifi shared with LoveMeow.
