A little kitten was found abandoned on a country road. She was drenched in water, cold and just skin and bones.

A family from Montreal, Canada was driving down the road when they spotted the kitten wandering all alone. They immediately stopped and approached the kitty, who was too weak to run away. They scooped her up and tried to warm her up in their arms.

The kitten was in poor shape and didn't have any appetite. Worried that she might not make it through the night, they reached out to Chatons Orphelins Montréal for help.

"We took the kitten in. She was just a bag of bones under tufts of hair. The kitten was no more than two months old, but only weighed about 480 grams, half the size she should have been," Chatons Orphelins Montréal told Love Meow. "We gave her the medical care she needed and placed her in a foster home so she could start healing."

The kitten whom they named Lio, had trouble eating and needed to be syringe fed around the clock. With antibiotics and supplements, the little girl bounced back and became more active and alert.

But Lio cried whenever her foster mom wasn't nearby. She craved constant attention as she didn't want to be alone.

Meanwhile, the rescue group had another singleton who was saved from a local shelter after she was picked up from the streets. Just like Lio, this kitten, Virgule, was orphaned and in rough shape.

"At this weight and without a mom, she wouldn't have made it much longer on her own."

The grey kitty couldn't stand being alone and would meow incessantly until she was picked up and held.

"She wanted someone to be present and would cry until she got her way."

Since both kittens needed a friend, the rescue group decided to pair them up once they were healthy enough.

When they finally met, Lio quickly became attached to her new feline friend and started following her everywhere around the house. "It was love at first sight. They bonded with each other right away," the rescue told Love Meow.

"They love cardboard boxes and Virgule is always the one who gets to be inside the box while Lio watches from the outside."

Lio will try to do everything Virgule does, and won't let her out of eyeshot.

She is more encouraged to play and feels more comfortable around people when she's with her best friend. It's hard to find one without the other.

Virgule is brave and fearless whereas Lio is a bit shy. Since they met, the sweet tuxedo has really come around.
